Worldwide Mobile Phone Sales Continue to Grow

The popularity of cell phones is by far something that is highly notable in the world of technology. What had been a relatively notable trend a few years ago has become something that is more than likely to pass the billion mark in the near future. Worldwide mobile phone sales have been growing over the years and is only going to continue to grow over time.

Over the past years cell phone use has increased. What was once a luxury in the 1980s has become something that is commonplace in society all over the world. In 1997 it is estimated that about 100 million mobile phones were sold in the world. These were for either new subscribers to cell phone service or for existing ones who wanted to get newer models.

Over the next few years the number of people who would have cell phones would continue to increase, and as a result more phones would be sold. In 2000 it got to where about 400 million phones were sold. Much of this came from the increase in the number of competing cell phone manufacturers and cell phone service providers.

In the past few years more people have offered cell phones and more services are being offered. In fact, more types of phones are being offered. As a result the number of people who have been getting cell phones has increased. In 2005 the number of phones sold in the world got to approximately 800 million according to a study from Gartner.

With more parts of the world being covered by cell phones the number has continued to increase. In 2006 nearly a billion mobile phones were sold. This was incredibly higher than that of the original estimate made by Gartner that said that it would not be until 2009 when the number reached the billion mark.

The popularity of cell phones is only expected to increase over time. It is estimated that nearly an additional six million phones are added in the country of India every month. Also, prepaid phone services are becoming more popular in Africa, where people who may not have otherwise been able to afford phone service have found it easier to pay for the services. Also, with more than three billion subscriptions around the world for cell phone services this number will only end up continuing to grow.

Worldwide mobile phone sales have been increasing over the years. More people are buying cell phones than ever before, and in many parts of the world the growth of cell phones has helped to make this trend continue. It is expected that the popularity of cell phones will continue to go along in the future.
